32 alumni from every decade of the School's history joined the Class
of 2008 for the VI Form Alumni Dinner on Sunday night. Buzz Speakman
'38, who is celebrating his 70th reunion and helped plant the
magnificent beech tree on the front lawn, gave the blessing.
Trustee
Hick Rowland '58 was the keynote speaker and told the soon-to-be-newest
SAS alumni, "This is our school. It is the responsibility of each and
every one of us, every alumnus, to make St. Andrew's the best school
possible. Stay involved with your classmates, with other St. Andreans
in whatever city or town you find yourself. Support the Annual
Fund—your participation really does count."
Following this
appeal to the soon-to-be graduates, Mr. Rowland challenged the Class of
2008 to achieve 100% class participation in next year's Annual Fund. He
was then joined by fellow classmate Steve Washburne to represent this
year's 50th Reunion Class, and Jackie Mette, Jill Rogers and John
Austin, from the Class of 1983, to represent the 25th Reunion Class.
Together they presented each VI Form boy with an "old School tie" and
each VI Form girl with a St. Andrew's cross charm, which they will wear
at Commencement next Sunday.
