This Reunion weekend, alumni joined faculty and friends of the
School in celebrating the dedication of M Dorm to Nan and Simon Mein.
Headmaster Roach, Director of Admission Louisa Zendt ’78 and Chair of
the Board of Trustees Katherine duP. Gahagan voiced their gratitude for
and admiration of the Mein’s years of service, participation and
leadership in School life. Louisa Zendt ’78 shared fond memories of the
freshly baked bread the Nan and Simon would offer to advisees and
students who were always made to feel welcome in their home.
Nan
and Simon Mein were pioneers who helped shape the spirit of St.
Andrew’s. As the first dorm parent for female students, Nan oversaw the
School’s transition into coeducation, while Simon brought unique wisdom
and heart to his chaplaincy. Their work as teachers, advisors, friends,
dorm parents and essential fixtures in the community for almost 30
years is now commemorated in the christening of a Mein Dorm.
