Montreal-born alumnus Dominic Seiterle ’94 will be rowing in the
Canadian Men’s Eight at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. After a
successful rowing career at St. Andrew’s, Dominic went on to Dartmouth
College, where he captained the heavyweight crew team during his senior
year, graduating in 1998. This will be Dominic’s second stint as an
Olympian; he raced in the Canadian double at the 2000 Olympic Games in
Sydney, Dominic took a seven-year hiatus. Returning to rowing last
year, he won a gold medal as part of the Canadian heavyweight eight at
the World Rowing Championships in Munich, Germany. The Canadian eight
also won the first and second 2007 World Cup Regattas in Linz, Austria,
and Lucerne, Switzerland.
Following the announcement of the nominated crews, the Montreal Gazette
quoted Rowing Canada vice-president Phil Monckton: "This is a strong
team - in skill and maturity level . . . The final weeks of preparation
before the Olympics are intense and exciting - we are looking forward
to the Olympic regatta and to making Canada proud both on and off the
water in Beijing."
