Dominic Seiterle '94 and the world champion crew from Canada won the
Men's Eight gold medal on Sunday with a time of 5:23.89. The crew kept
ahead of the competition from start to finish. Great Britain came in
second with a time of 5:25.11, while the United States, champions in
Athens, grabbed the bronze at 5:25.34.
The Canadian crew broke a 35-year-old trend that has seen no reigning
world champion in the Men's Eight follow up with Olympic gold.
The Canadian Men’s Eight are: Kevin Light, Ben Rutledge, Andrew Byrnes,
Jake Wetzel, Malcolm Howard, Dominic Seiterle, Adam Kreek, Kyle
Hamilton and coxswain Brian Price.
As a student at St. Andrew’s, Dominic rowed varsity under coach Lindsay
Brown, a member of the 1988 Olympic team. Dominic went on to Dartmouth
College, where he captained the heavyweight crew team during his senior
year, graduating in 1998. This is Dominic’s second stint as an
Olympian; he raced in the Canadian double at the 2000 Olympic Games in
Sydney.
